STEPHEN BAGLEY    DESIGNER, ARTIST & LANDSCAPE STEWARD

Combining a lifetime of creative pursuits in art and design with his love for the outdoors, Stephen has built a residential landscape design practice which relies on a powerful collaborative process between clients, like-minded artisans, craftsmen, architects, designers, environmental agencies and other construction professionals. Built on a foundation of hands-on construction experience, broad horticultural knowledge and a far reaching professional network formed over the span of nearly two decades, his creative vision comes to life through successful team building and an on-going dialogue with his clients and affiliates. 

Stephen is a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, graduating Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (class of ‘97). On Boston’s North Shore he played a key role designing and building a multitude of residential and commercial properties over the span of 10 years with the design/build firm, Landesign.

He launched his own design firm, studio b designworks, LLC in 2008.  Specializing in residential works he continues to craft gardens for custom, new construction and remodeled homes on Cape Ann and in Boston’s North Shore and Metro regions.  His works are often conceived as an extension of the architecture and its interior spaces. Transcending aggregation, his approach relies on an integration of all the elements in order to distinguish an integral relationship between house and garden.

His work has been published in the hardcover book, Perspectives On Design New England, as well as in North Shore Home and Coastal Home magazines. His gardens have gained popularity in the Town of Rockport, MA with four of his projects having been featured in the Rockport Garden Club’s annual Coastal Garden Tour since 2013. The tours are locally treasured, summer events which offer the unique opportunity for the general public to enjoy noteworthy and distinctive seaside environments. 

A native to Boston’s North Shore, Stephen enjoys his free time getting outdoors with his wife and two daughters, friends, and his loyal canine companion, Sam. Capitalizing on all New England has to offer, he is active in cycling/mountain biking, snowboarding, backcountry splitboard touring, cross-country skiing, surfing, backpacking and light mountaineering. The joy, inspiration, and work/life balance he derives from his profound connection to nature continually renews his commitment to preserving native ecosystems and the practice of responsible and sustainable development.
